Hebrews 7:25 · Romans 8:34

Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Reflection

What is Jesus doing in heaven right now? The Bible says “he always lives to make intercession” for us. To make intercession means to pray and speak for someone.

When you have a hard day, when you are tempted, or when you stumble into sin, Jesus is standing before God the Father for you. He shows his scars and reminds the Father that your debt is paid.

Your safety tomorrow does not rest on your weak prayers; it rests on the living prayers of Jesus.

This is not a picture of Jesus twisting the Father’s arm. It is the risen Son, at the Father’s right hand, keeping his people.

Theology

The prayers that actually hold you

He always lives to pray. Romans 8 puts the same Christ at the right hand — the one who died, who was raised, who intercedes. You are not the main speaker in the conversation that saves you. You are the one being spoken for.

Daily life

On a hard day, you are already being prayed for

We feel weak and think our faith will fail when life gets hard. Jesus is praying for you in heaven right this second, and his prayers never fail. Before you try to “get your prayer life together,” receive this: you are already on his lips.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, it brings me great comfort to know you are praying for me in heaven. Hold my hand and keep my faith strong today. Amen.
