He Always Lives to Pray
Hebrews 7:25 · Romans 8:34
Right now, while you read this, Jesus is speaking for you before the Father. Your weak prayers are not the whole story.
What is Jesus doing at this moment? Hebrews answers without romance: “he always lives to make intercession for them.”
Intercession is not a mood. It is a Priest standing in the presence of God with his people on his heart — and with his own blood as the reason they belong there. Romans 8:34 puts him at the Father’s right hand, the risen Christ, praying.
This is not Jesus begging a reluctant Father. Father and Son are not at odds. The Son’s prayer is the will of the Father spoken from inside our humanity. He shows that the debt is paid. He asks that the people he bought be kept.
Your safety tomorrow does not rest on whether you remembered to pray long enough tonight. You should pray. You are invited to pray. But the beam that holds the house is not your words. It is his.
When you are tempted, he is already praying. When you stumble, he is already praying. When you cannot form a sentence, he is not waiting for you to become eloquent.
The Christian life is lived under an ongoing conversation you did not start.
