Hebrews 7:22 · Colossians 2:14
By so much, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.
Reflection
The Bible calls Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant. A guarantor is like a person who steps into a room and promises to pay a big bill if someone else cannot pay it.
We broke God’s laws, and we owed a huge debt of sin that we could never pay. We had no money and no good works to fix it. But Jesus stepped forward for us. On the cross, he gave his own life to pay our entire debt. He did not pay half; he paid every single drop.
A better covenant is better because the Priest who stands behind it has already settled the account. You are not being asked to match him. You are being asked to rest where he has signed.

Theology
The bill has a name on it that is not yours
Jesus the Guarantor does not lend you a little help. He takes the debt as his own. Colossians says the record against us was nailed to the cross. That nail is why Hebrews can call this covenant better.
Daily life
Stop trying to pay God back
We often try to pay God back with our own efforts, feeling guilty and tired. Jesus paid your full debt on the cross, so the law cannot ask you for payment anymore. Notice one place today where you are still “making it up to God,” and lay it down as already paid.

Jesus the Guarantor
Hebrews 7:22 · Colossians 2:14
A guarantor does not cheer you on while you pay. He steps in and takes the bill as his own.
TheologyOnce for All
Hebrews 7:26–27 · Hebrews 10:11–14
Old priests offered again tomorrow because yesterday’s blood could not finish the job. Jesus offered himself once. It is enough.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for paying my whole debt of sin on the cross. Help me stop trying to pay my own way and rest in your gift today. Amen.
