Hebrews 7:23–24
Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.
Reflection
In the Old Testament, there were many priests because every priest eventually grew old and died. When a good priest died, the people lost their helper. Death always stopped their work.
But Jesus is completely different. Jesus died on the cross, rose from the grave, and will never die again. Because he lives forever, he is our High Priest forever. He never leaves his place of help, and his care for you will never end.
The grave was the old priesthood’s closing time. There is no closing time on this one.

Theology
Death cannot take your helper
They were “hindered from continuing by death.” Hebrews is not being unkind. It is telling the truth about every human helper. A priest who never dies has an unchangeable office because he has an unchangeable life. There is no successor waiting in the wings.
Daily life
People leave; this Priest does not
Earthly friends and leaders will leave us or pass away, leaving us lonely. Jesus will never die or leave you; he is your living Helper every day of your life. When someone you leaned on is gone, name the difference: grief is real, and so is a Priest who is still in office.

A Priest Who Never Dies
Hebrews 7:23–24
Death used to be the limit of every helper. Jesus’ priesthood cannot be interrupted, because he cannot be.
TheologyHe Always Lives to Pray
Hebrews 7:25 · Romans 8:34
Right now, while you read this, Jesus is speaking for you before the Father. Your weak prayers are not the whole story.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for rising from the dead and living forever. Thank you that you will never leave me alone in this world. Amen.
