Hebrews 13:12 · John 19:17–18
Therefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered outside of the gate. He went out, bearing his cross, to the place called “The Place of a Skull,” which is called in Hebrew, “Golgotha,” where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the middle.
Reflection
Jesus was not killed inside the holy city of Jerusalem. The rulers pushed Him out through the city gate. They marched Him to a hill called Golgotha, a place of death, and nailed Him to a tree.
By doing this, they treated Jesus like garbage and an outcast. But this was God’s plan. Jesus took our place as the true sin offering. He went to the place of shame and dirt so that His blood could make us clean and holy for God.
