Hebrews 12:1 · 1 Corinthians 9:24–26
Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, so that you may win. Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I therefore run like that, not aimlessly. I fight like that, not beating the air.
Reflection
The Bible says: “let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”. Notice that word: the race is set before us. This means you do not draw your own track. God placed the course in front of you.
The word for race in Greek is agōn, where we get our word agony. It is a hard contest. Endurance means staying under the heat. It means you do not quit or sit on the grass when your lungs burn.

Theology
The Hope
God chose this path for you, and He gives you the power to stay on the track through every hard step.
Daily life
The Heart
When troubles come, we want to walk off the track or complain that our race is harder than someone else’s race.
Prayer
Father, give me endurance when my road is steep and my body feels weak. Keep me from quitting, and help me stay on the track You gave me. Amen.
