Hebrews 12:1 · Psalm 139:23–24

Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.

Reflection

The Bible tells us to lay aside the sin that clings so close. Clinging sin is different from a regular weight. It does not stand in front of you like a fair fight. It wraps around your legs like a rope the moment you try to run. It trips your feet.

It might be anger, secret lust, or a bitter grudge you refuse to let go. You cannot run a good race if your feet are tied up in sin. Ask God to cut the rope.

Theology

The Hope

The Holy Spirit has the power to break the clinging sin that trips you, setting your feet on a clean path.

Daily life

The Heart

We often try to run while hiding a secret sin, and then we wonder why we keep falling on our faces.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, cut away the sin that wraps around my feet and makes me fall. Clean my heart and give me strength to say no to temptation today. Amen.
