Hebrews 12:1 · Matthew 11:28–30

Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us. Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Reflection

Before an athlete runs, they strip off heavy clothes. No one runs a 400-metre race with a school bag on their back. The Bible tells us to lay aside every weight. A weight is extra bulk. It is not always a sin. It can be a job that eats your whole life, too much time on the phone, or trying hard to impress other people.

If it slows down the race God gave you to run, it is a weight. Put down the bag so your legs can move.

Theology

The Hope

Jesus does not ask you to carry the world; He invites you to drop your heavy bag and run free.

Daily life

The Heart

We carry heavy loads of pride and worry because we are afraid of what others will think of us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, show me the heavy weights I am carrying today. Help me drop my pride and my extra burdens so I can follow You freely. Amen.
