Matthew 27:46 · Proverbs 18:24
About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lima sabachthani?” That is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Reflection
On the cross, Jesus felt the full pain of being completely alone. His disciples ran away. The crowds mocked Him. Even more, as He carried our sins, the sky went dark, and He cried out: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Jesus fell under the heavy judgment of our sin, and there was no one to lift Him up. He took that terrible, freezing loneliness so that we would never be cast away. Because He was forsaken, you are welcomed into God’s family forever.

The Heart
We fear that if people or God see our sins, they will leave us all alone.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for taking the dark loneliness of the cross for me. Thank You that because of Your sacrifice, I am never alone. Amen.
