Ecclesiastes 4:4 · Galatians 5:26
Then I saw all the labor and achievement that is the envy of a man’s neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind. Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
Reflection
The Preacher saw why people work so hard. He noticed that much of human work comes from envy of a neighbor. We want a better car, a higher title, or more money just to show that we are ahead of others. This kind of rivalry is like chasing the wind. It turns friends into enemies. When we treat life like a contest, we cannot truly love anyone. The Gospel frees us from this race. Your worth is already safe in Christ, so you do not need to compete with your brother.

Daily life
The Heart
We feel bitter or jealous when a friend or coworker gets praise or does well.
Prayer
Father, take all jealousy and rivalry out of my heart. Teach me to be glad for the blessings of others and to rest in Your love. Amen.
