Ecclesiastes 3:11 · 2 Corinthians 4:18
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end. While we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Reflection
The Bible says God has put eternity into the human heart. In Hebrew, this word is olam—the far horizon, the forever of God. Animals do not worry about a legacy or feel the ache of lost years, but people do. We measure our days. We mourn when years pass. We feel this tension because we were not made to end in the dirt. God stamped eternity on your soul so that nothing smaller than God can ever satisfy you. Money, trips, and work cannot fill this deep space.
