Ecclesiastes 1:4–7
One generation goes, and another generation comes; but the earth remains forever. The sun also rises, and the sun goes down, and hurries to its place where it rises. The wind goes toward the south, and turns around to the north. It turns around continually as it goes, and the wind returns again to its courses. All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, there they flow again.
Reflection
The Preacher calls four witnesses from nature to show how tired the world is. People come and people go, but the dirt of the earth stays. The sun rises, goes down, and gasps like a tired runner rushing back to the start line. The wind blows around and around in circles, making no progress. Streams run into the sea, but the sea is never full.
Nature is stuck in an endless loop. If there is no God who rules history, human life is just rolling a heavy stone up a hill only to watch it roll back down.

Theology
The Hope
History is not a meaningless circle; God is guiding all things toward a real and glorious finish line in Christ.
Daily life
The Heart
We get tired because our days feel like a treadmill of chores, bills, and work that never ends.
Prayer
Sovereign Lord, You rule over the sun, the wind, and the seas. When my days feel repetitive and heavy, remind me that my life is held in Your hands. Amen.
